Freudian psychology is based on the work of sigmund freud 1856 1939 he is considered the father of psychoanalysis and is largely credited with establishing the field of verbal psychotherapy. While freuds theory implied that homosexuality was a deviation in normal psychosexual development many contemporary psychologists believe that sexual orientation is largely influenced by biological factors. The psychosexual stages do not fully explain human behaviour as they are highly reductionist and ignore the complexity of the human mind as well as being bias in only emphasising one aspect as the basis of all behaviour therefore it can be said that they are of little value to contemporary psychology. Anna o may not have actually been freuds patient but her case informed much of freuds work and later theories on therapy and psychoanalysis the driving forces behind personality according to freud psychoanalytic theory all psychic energy is generated by the libido
